Katerina Tsakona

Attorney at Law, Athens and Heraclion

Katerina is an attorney at law in Heraklion at the Supreme Court of Athens. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology & Telecommunications Law (‘Copyright and Multimedia’ – Ph.D. Thesis, 2003), and LL.M. with Distinction in Information Technology and Telecommunications Law (‘Encryption’ LLM Dissertation,1996), both from Strathclyde University, Law School, (Glasgow, UK), and a Law degree from the Department of Law of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1995). She has been a member of Patras and then Heraklion Bar Association and practices law since 1996. Her fields of expertise include particularly Information Technology law & Intellectual & Industrial Property law, IT R&D Grants, Consortium, Exploitation Technology Transfer, Copyright Law, Patents, Data Protection, Privacy, Ethics in IT and research. Since 2010 she has been a member (regular) of Research Ethics Committees. Since 2004 to 2009 she had been lecturing Information Technology and Telecommunications Law as a visiting professor at the University of Crete, the Technical Universities of Crete and Thessaly. Her research interests focus on IT/IP originality, authorship & inventorship, notion and thresholds, natural persons, digital rights, in IT, multimedia, ambient technologies, data protection, privacy, trust, liabilities, ethics, and security.
